I smiled when you described your dialectic with Kraig! It's similar to what happens when I've written myself into a corner and I ask my husband John for help. The resulting synthesis is always something better and stronger <3

Isn’t it a beautiful thing?

Kraig keeps you close to the earth. Wish he could join The Habit and help us all stay close to the earth. :)

Yeah, but then he’d have to do the whole writing thing…or commenting on our poor layout of clear theses 😁.

I love this sneak peek into your story/world/map building process!!!

I agree. Leaving about the process deepens my appreciation of the final product. And I love the way Loren describes it.

Is yoller a real word? If so, it's new to me!

Loren Warnemuende's avatar

I had a red line under it that I just ignored 😆. Our family uses the phrase “yoller and holler”—who knows who made it up!

Loren Warnemuende's avatar

It’s very cathartic.

I like it!

Oh I get this! My husband is a geological engineer. Our first date was a drive up a mountain to take pictures of dirt. 😂

Soil, Renee, soil 🤣

Oh yeah….. 😂

I loved reading this so much. It's so interesting to see the dynamics of writers and their spouses. My husband is also a math nerd (of the astrophysics variety) and he helps me get sciencey stuff right in my works.

Also . . . MAPS. Maps are so awesome. I'm glad you include them in your books!

Loren Warnemuende's avatar

Hooray for mathy husbands! And yes, maps are vital. I get really annoyed with ones which don’t have enough pertinent details.

Loren, as someone else who *appreciates* math and its usefulness but doesn’t have a passion for it, I love this 😂❤️ it is so cool when family members can teach other like this! I am very excited to read more of your next WIP, including what does happen to that underground/sub-water-table room!

You’ll definitely get in on it on the first floor…preferably a dry one 🤣

Isn’t it great how our families can help us grow and appreciate new things? My husband loves flying and planes. He has a private pilot’s license and he and the boys all like airplane museums. I would never have guessed that I would spend so much time around planes. I have zero interest in real or simulated flight, but I appreciate their enthusiasm.

Loren Warnemuende's avatar

And strange appreciations may rub off on you despite your lack of interest. I know I can really admire a well-structured bridge these days. I probably know just enough to be dangerous….

Jennifer Degani's avatar

I certainly know a lot more about planes now. I tend to gravitate to the human stories and history of aviation, which makes sense given my interests.

I agree with you about the story side! I much prefer learning about engineering bits if a good story is connected to it.

I so enjoy Clare's artwork. But I'm having trouble deciphering the handwriting on the far right side. Please "clarify" .

I think it was actually some notes from a message she was listening to! She draws while she listens, and sometimes writes things down.

Ahhh.
